Andy and I talked a few seasons back about possibly changing the nickname, since Cleveland is actually changing it in real life. We could change it to Guardians. We could go the historical route and change it to Blues. We could always leave it as Indians. For those three choices, it truly doesn't matter to me. I'm interested to see what the league thinks the nickname should be.
Guardians: I'm fine with it. It's not my favorite and I can agree that it can seem vanilla, generic, etc... to some. However, I feel if you look at some other professional sports names, they're pretty generic and boring, too. We've just grown accustomed to them since we've known them by that name our entire lives or the franchise's existence. Take the Packers, for example. They're named after a packaging company. Could you imagine a team being re-named to something like that in today's world? Yikes! But hey, Vince Lombardi and yada yada. We accept it.
Logo/Smiley: Guardians C Logo
Blues: Cleveland was called the Blues from 1879-1884 when they were in the NL and again in 1901 as a part of MLB. This would be my choice, but I'll save my vote for a needed tiebreaker.
Logo/Smiley: 70's C Logo in Blue
Indians: We could debate whether it's offensive or not, but I don't think it's worth it. It's what they were named and currently are in our file. You can believe the Louis Sockalexis inspiration for the team name or not.
Logo/Smiley: 70's C Logo i(Currently Used)
Spiders: I simply have no interest in them being named the Spiders and it would be a non-starter for me to even suggest it.
